The Grant Community High School February Student of the Month is senior Austin Smith, son of Justin and Megan Smith of Round Lake.
Austin's academic achievements include induction into the National Honor Society during his sophomore year, Socials Committee Head of the National Art Honor Society, Honor Roll each semester, earning the AP Scholar with Honor award, and being recognized as an Illinois State Scholar. He has taken numerous AP courses and holds a remarkable 4.99 GPA.
His extracurricular activities include Football, Track, and Lacrosse.
Austin has participated in numerous volunteer and community service opportunities through NHS and NAHS. He has been a referee and coach for the Grant Jr. Bulldogs football program, he is a Big Dawg Mentor, and volunteers his time as a Student Athletic Trainer at basketball games and after school in our athletic training room.
In addition to all of his activities, Austin previously worked as a dock boy at Jet Funn over the summer, and currently works as a cashier at Panda Express. In his spare time, he loves football and art, and can be found outdoors on bike rides or jet skiing.
His plans for the future include attending a 4-year university and then on to medical school to become an orthopedic surgeon. He is exploring the University of Iowa, Marquette University, or Iowa State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science.
