September Student of the Month ~ Julia Fornero

The Grant Community High School September Student of the Month is senior Julia Fornero, daughter of Joe and Laura Fornero of Ingleside.

Julia's academic achievements include induction into the National Honor Society during her sophomore year, serving as Vice President during her junior year and as President this year.  She has earned her place on Honor Roll each semester, she is a 4-time Scholar Athlete Award winner, and she has taken four AP courses and completed three AP exams.  She holds an amazing 4.86/4.00 GPA.

Her extracurricular activities include Grant Cheer all four years, varsity athlete since sophomore year, and Team Captain freshman year. She has played club volleyball and competed at nationals during sophomore and junior year.

She was invited to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, a three-day camp where she learned additional leadership skills. She has been a Big Dawg mentor since junior year and is currently a mentor in a freshman team class.

Julia has volunteered through NHS with graduation, blood drives, Fox Lake Pumpkin Jubilee, roadside cleanup, freshman orientation, Fox Lake Santa Holiday Party, and the NHS Induction ceremony.  She also enjoys being a volunteer coach with the Grant Jr. Bulldogs cheer team.

In addition to all of her activities, Julia works at Deacons Restaurant and Golf Farm, and in her spare time likes baking, reading, spending time with friends and family, and helping out in her community. She holds a 1st degree black belt, first earning her black belt in 8th grade.

Her plans for the future include majoring in finance and she is currently exploring numerous schools, including University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Purdue.
