April Student of the Month ~ Serena Birkhoff

Serena Birkhoff The Grant Community High School April Student of the Month is senior Serena Birkhoff, daughter of Thomas Birkhoff of McHenry and Audrey Minkalis of Ingleside.

Serena's academic achievements include induction into the National Honor Society during her sophomore year, she has been recognized on Honor Roll and Scholars’ List, and earned AP Scholar status, while holding a remarkable GPA of 5.253.

Her extracurricular activities have included JV Cheerleading where she was Captain, Class Council each year and served as Sophomore Class President, and Math Team competing at State as a sophomore and during junior year she placed 10th with her 8-person team in 2018.

Serena participates in many service opportunities for her community with NHS.  She has also volunteered her time at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, the community garden, taken stats for baseball, helped at various events at Big Hollow, assisted her peers in Math Lab, and as a Big Dawg Mentor.

In addition to all of her activities, Serena works at Buffalo Wild Wings and in her spare time she enjoys working with children, seeking out information on her favorite subjects: science and medicine, and she loves to travel and experience other cultures.

Her plans for the future include earning a double major in biology and Spanish.  She is evaluating her university options and would like to study abroad in Spain.  She aspires to be a pediatric surgeon.
