Social Emotional Learning

This year, we are hosting a series of Social Emotional Learning sessions for parents. Each Parent University night will offer a session on this topic as an continuing conversation. Parents are encouraged to attend all or drop in for a single event. All resources from these presentations can be found in our Schoology course.

Schoology Course: Join with access code: SVQW-NVZD-FW8PD

Series General Description:

Families are a child’s first teacher and an essential factor in the cultivation of social and emotional (SEL) competencies throughout a child’s life. These competencies are self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision making.

In this time of transition, schools and families need to work together more than ever to build strong connections that reinforce social-emotional skill development.  In fact, research suggests that SEL work is more effective when the strategies and supports at school extend into the home.

This discussion series is designed to engage parents and caregivers in conversations about the social and emotional growth of their families. At each Parent University we will offer an opportunity to come together with other parents and caregivers to explore ways to support and reinforce your child’s social and emotional learning. It’s an opportunity to learn from each other and explore our hopes for our children’s development.

Each session lasts about 30-60 minutes. We will strive to divide into small groups to hear everyone’s voice as much as we can.
