Frequently Asked Questions

If your student is sick at school:

  • If your student calls or texts you that they are not feeling well, please ask them to go to the Health Office.
  • Students need a pass from class to come to the Health Office, unless it is an emergency. If it is a passing period, then the student must get a pass from the next class, so the teacher is aware of the student’s attendance.
  • Appropriate communication to parent/guardian or emergency contact based upon concern may follow.

If your student has a fever (temperature of 100.4 degrees or more):

  • Your student must be fever-free for 24 hours without the assistance of fever-reducing medication, such as Advil, Tylenol, etc. before he/she can return to school.
  • If your student is found to have a fever while at school, they must be picked up immediately.

If your student forgot to take their morning medication:

  • If your student missed an essential morning medication, please call the Health Office. We will help coordinate a time for you to come to administer the medication to your student. The parent/guardian, nurse, and student will meet at the Main Office so the medication can be administered.
  • You may NOT drop off a bottle of medication for your student. No student should have over-the-counter or prescription medication in their backpack or in their locker.

If your student requires DAILY or "as needed" medication while at school:

  • Please reference our Medication Administration Consent Form.
  • No student can carry over-the-counter or prescription medications.
  • Examples of medications that can be stored in the Health Office include: pain reliever, antacids, inhalers, anxiety medication, medication to treat ADHD or other medical conditions, Epi-pens, Benadryl, seizure meds, insulin or other diabetic supplies.

If your student has a doctor’s note or arrives to school on crutches:

  • Please give a copy of all physician notes to the Health Office; we will assist in distributing information to the appropriate staff.
  • For those on crutches, elevator access and extra time between classes may be provided to assist the student throughout the school day.
  • If additional resources are needed, please contact the Health Office.

All correspondence such as physical exams, sports physicals, vaccine information, PE excuses, MD notes, etc., can be emailed to healthoffice@grantbulldogs.org

Please contact the health office with any additional questions or concerns.
