Jazz Ensemble
This is a performance-based ensemble designed for the upper-level musician or student looking to strengthen their musical ability in a fun and educational way through the art of jazz and improvisation. We are looking for students of any grade level who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, drums, or guitar. They are encouraged to attend an informational meeting at the start of the school year. Audition materials will be distributed during the meeting. The purpose of the audition is to be sure appropriate music is selected for concerts and contests and proper instrumentation is put in place. Once selected, students would need to complete a commitment form to insure their participation throughout the year.
Rehearsals would be Wednesday evenings, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, and Friday mornings, as needed for sectional work, from 6:45 to 7:30 am. The Jazz Ensemble begins in late September and ends at the end of the school year.
There are approximately 18-22 students in the jazz ensemble that will participate in six performances throughout the year that include concerts, contests, community events, and listening events with local colleges or universities. We also make every effort to bring in clinicians and educators who would work with our group to strengthen their individual and ensemble playing.
There is no fee to participate in this ensemble.
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have.
