Principal's Corner

Jeremy Schmidt, Principal

September 2024

Welcome to the start of the 2024-2025 school year! With 428 incoming freshmen and a total enrollment of more than 1,826 students, our school continues to be a vibrant and dynamic community. Each of you contributes to the strength and diversity of our school, and we take pride in offering a wide range of opportunities for everyone. Engaging in academics is just the beginning; embracing new experiences in athletics and extracurricular activities is equally important. We believe that trying new things and getting involved can lead to rewarding experiences, and there’s something for everyone at every grade level outside the classroom.

As we continue to learn and grow as a school community, this year exemplifies our commitment to improvement. This year, more students are enrolled in more Dual Credit Courses than ever before, and new extracurricular activities like Girls Flag Football, Baking Club, and Creative Fiber Arts Club provide exciting opportunities for students. Student voice from forums such as Student Council, the Student Representative to the Board of Education, Keep It RED, Principal’s Advisory Council, and National Honor Society continue to impact our school community by improving things like the Dawg Bowl, which will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., will have updated menu choices. Additionally, qualifying seniors who Keep It RED will continue to qualify semesterly for “The RED Zone” and have flexible schedules instead of assigned study halls.

Parents and guardians also have opportunities to stay informed and involved this year through our Parent University Program. Please visit the Parent University section of the Grant website for more information on this valuable program and the schedule of meetings.

Our school year begins on August 12, 2024. Freshmen will start their day at the regular time of 7:40 a.m., while sophomores, juniors, and seniors will arrive at the Flex Start time of 9:25 a.m. Bus services will be available for both arrival times. If sophomores, juniors, or seniors arrive early, they may wait in the Commons until 9:00 a.m. For updated bus routes and schedules, please check the school website.

From 7:40 a.m. to 8:55 a.m., freshmen will follow “The Freshman Five” abbreviated schedule. This will help them get familiar with the building, navigate their class schedules, and meet their Big Dawg Mentors and teachers. After this, freshmen will join the rest of the students for the 9:25 a.m. Flex Start schedule. A detailed schedule for the day is included with this letter.

One last important point is an operational one: please be aware that there are multiple roadway improvement projects underway in the area surrounding Grant. These projects include Route 12, Route 59, Washington Street, and Grand Avenue. These projects will be ongoing throughout at least the first semester. To minimize traffic around campus, students are encouraged to take buses to and from school, and students with parking passes should plan for additional travel time. Parents choosing to drop-off and pick-up students, please be patient. Please see the attached map with drop-off and pick-up information.

On behalf of the entire staff, I am excited about the amazing things you will accomplish this year. Before our first day, review your schedule, bring it with you, enjoy the rest of your summer, and get ready for a fantastic year ahead!

Keep It RED,

Dr. Jeremy Schmidt
