The Grant Community High School April Student of the Month is senior Megan Japczyk, daughter of John & Genaline Japczyk of Lake Villa.
Megan's academic achievements include induction into the National Honor Society during her sophomore year, and she holds a 4.09/4.00 GPA, which places her in the top 20 percent of her senior class. She in the Criminal Justice program at the Technology Campus and is the Student Ambassador for her class. She was recently chosen for an internship at a local police department that will begin in the next few weeks.
Megan has immersed herself in a variety of extracurriculars. Within the Arts, she is involved in Marching Band, Chamber Singers, Fall Play, and the Spring Musical. Her athletics include Fall Guard, where she earned Rookie of the Year and MVP, Winter Guard, and Girls’ Bowling. She also participated in Student Council, Academic Team, and Speech Team. She was also chosen to represent Grant at Illini Girls’ State and Tech Campus at SkillsUSA where she won the Statesman Award and first place in the opening and closing ceremony.
In addition to all of her in-school activities, Megan has been playing piano for 13 years and violin for 8 years, takes dance lessons at Waterford Dance Academy, and is involved in theatre for Round Lake Park District. She helps out with vacation bible school and plays piano for her church. Additionally, she works at the Gap in Gurnee.
Her plans for the future include earning a degree in chemistry or forensic science. She is evaluating her university choices but looking primarily at Loyola University and Roosevelt University in Chicago.
