Debate Team News
Freshmen Justin Ehrenhofer and Alex Guziak debated their way through two full days of rounds at state this weekend. They went all the way to the final round and brought home the second place trophy! Alex Guziak also earned a top speaker award! Seniors Samantha Smyth and Suzana Kondic won 3 of 5 rounds. Congratulations Team! The debate topic for state was "Resolved: The United States should suspend all assistance to Pakistan."
The Debate team had another winning weekend! In their tournament at Fremd the GCHS Debate Team members set many personal records! Congratulations to Samantha Smyth and Suzi Kondic for taking 5th in the JV division by winning 3 of 4 rounds and earning 29s, "Excellent," speaker points! Walter Gordon debated an impressive 3 wins out of 4 at the JV level. Keeping in mind that their JV competitors are students who have been competing for a full year or more, these three students most definitely deserve high compliments just one month into the league! Freshman Amy Juarez won 2 of her 4 rounds! She is well on her way toward an impressive debate future!
No Argument Here-GCHS Debate is Top Dawg
This past weekend the Grant Debate Team participated in its first ever competition and brought home two first place trophies! Going up against teams from long-standing Debate programs at New Trier, Barrington, Sandburg, Fremd, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, and Libertyville High Schools, the GCHS Debating Bulldogs came out victorious thanks to many hours of hard work and practice during the past two months. Samantha Smyth and Suzana Kondic won the first place honors in the Public Forum debate by winning all four rounds. They also earned recognition for their precise and polished debates. Walter Gordon won two rounds and took 8th highest speaker points in the Lincoln-Douglas debate. Dylan Jay and Alex Guziak also won two debate rounds and Amy Juarez won one round. With many competitions coming soon, Grant looks to be a fierce Debate competitor and one the other teams should watch out for. Great job Bulldogs, we are proud of you!
